Ranjani Mazumdar: "Aviation, tourisme, rêver dans le cinema de Bombay des années 1960"

Ranjani Mazumbar est Professeur associée d'études cinématographiques à la School of Arts & Aesthetics,Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Ses intérêts portent sur les cultures urbaines, le cinéma populaire, le genre et la ville cinématographique. Elle est l'auteure de Bombay Cinema: An Archive of the City (University of Minnesota Press, 2007). Elle est égalementdocumentariste et membre fondatrice de Mediasorm, le premier collectif de cinéma des femmes, qui a reçu le prix Chameli Devi Jain décerné à des professionnelles des media en 1992. Ses documentaires comprennent notamment Delhi Diary 2001 ; The Power of the Image et Prisoner of Gender (pour lequel elle a reçu un Panda d'Argent au Festival de Chengdu, Chine, 1991). Ses
recherches actuelles se construisent à l'intersection du tourisme, du voyage et du cinéma des années 1960, portent sur la mondialisation et la culture filmique et sur l'histoire de l'affiche de cinéma à Bombay.

ENG: Ranjani Mazumdar is Associate Professor of Cinema Studies at the School of Arts & Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her publications focus on urban cultures, popular cinema, gender and the cinematic city. She is the author of Bombay Cinema: An Archive of the City published by the University of Minnesota Press (2007). Mazumdar has also worked as a documentary filmmaker and is a founding member of Mediasorm, India’s first women’s film collective, which received the Chameli Devi Jain Award for outstanding media professionals among women in 1992. Mazumdar’s documentaries include Delhi Diary 2001 (on violence, memory and the city); The Power of the Image (co-directed;  a television series on Bombay cinema); and Prisoner of Gender which won the Silver Panda at the International Television DocumentaryFilm Festival in Chengdu, China, 1991. Mazumdar’s current research focuses on the intersection of tourism, travel and cinema in the 1960s, contemporary globalization and film culture, and the history of the Bombay film poster.
